and make a brand new start,
anyone can start from now
and make a brand new ending.”

Meet the Mediators

Doug Hennessy has been offering his mediation services since 2002 – with experience not only in divorce mediation, but parenting plans, post-divorce modifications, mediating parent-teen disputes, and intra-family disputes. He also works with juvenile offenders, mediating for the Restorative Justice Program at Community Mediation Services.

As a practicing psychotherapist for twenty years before becoming a mediator, he brings a sense of emotional empathy to the process that is unique among mediators. That background also means he has the skills and experience to offer clients more than the usual mediator, such as a workshop to improve communication (and reduce arguing) between divorced parents called Parenting Together, Living Apart and running groups for adolescents of divorced parents.  He has also worked with adolescents in schools, setting up Peer Mediation Programs.

Doug puts every effort into helping his clients reach the best of all possible agreements, where everyone is served, especially the children. He believes success in mediation comes from knowing you’ve been heard and given due attention as the issues are being worked out in the agreement.  The goal is to have everyone feel enabled to get beyond the stress of the conflict and move on to the best of their ability.

Erica L. Whitty recently completed her Master’s degree in Conflict and Dispute Resolution from the University of Oregon, where she specialized in Family Mediation with a focus in High Conflict Personalities and Communication Dynamics.  Erica’s approach to mediation is facilitative, and her goal is to use her background in Mediation Theory & Practice, Family & Child Development, and Family Law to assist Family clients in navigating the unique details of their life circumstances to craft their own agreements in parenting plans, dissolutions, or post-decree modifications.

Erica’s training and professional experience also includes the areas of Business, Employment, and Organizational mediation, Human Resources and Employment Law, teen Restorative Justice, as well as Senior Citizen Services mediation.  A passionate advocate of simple, accessible solutions to complex problems, Erica will strive to help clients assess their goals, and to create a roadmap for them to move forward successfully through their challenges to rewarding futures.
